Love Is

2.5 Minute Read

"Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant,"

1 Corinthians 13:4 NASB1995

Love is. “Is” (#WHM) is a state of being. It exists. But how does it exist? It exists in many different forms and in many different ways but all of them are through action. Love is an action. Love is a verb. That’s how love exists. Love is.

Love is patient. Patience is an attribute of love. When one is patient towards another they are demonstrating love toward that person. Patience is one quality or virtue of love. When you see patience, you see love.

Love is kind.(χρηστεῦομαι - chrēsteuomai). This is not just the idea of being nice, but of being useful. Love is useful. Love is benevolent. Love gives. Love is.

Love is not. Love is “not jealous” (NASB95), “not braggadocious”, “not puffed up” (KJV). Love does not exist where those vices are present. Love is light and cannot fellowship with these attributes found only in the darkness. Where they are, love is not.

Love is a living thing like faith (James 2:26). Like faith, the life of love is seen in deeds. So in your life, your love is seen or it is not. It exists or it doesn’t. Love, biblical love, godly love, exists not just in your feelings, but in your actions. Love is. Love is doing something. Love is alive. Is it? In your life today; how will love come to life? How will people see it? How will others know it is real because of you; that it is in you, from you, that it is you? How will they know love is? And how will they know God because of your living love?

Remember this also: God is love. (I John 4:8) God is. How does God exist? How is God manifested? In love. Through love. God is love.
