"Let all that you do be done in love."
1 Corinthians 16:14 NASB1995
This passage has been in my bible all of my life, but I just don't remember hearing it much throughout my life. And in all of the times I've read through the scriptures, for whatever reason, it never stuck out, and it never stuck in my head.
That changed in 2020. During the pandemic and the summer swell of rioting throughout the United States, when I read it then, for whatever reason, it stuck.
To me, the power of this verse is that it doesn't have context. It just stands on its own. It says what it says. It means what it means. It is what it is. There are not "buts", there are no exceptions, there are no qualifiers, there is no deep Greek word study to reveal some secret meaning, it just is. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." - Jesus (Mark 4:9) Take it or leave it.
And that's the problem. Too often we leave it. We forget it. Just ask yourself:
"Did I know this verse was in the Bible?"
"When I think about scriptures on love, is this verse in the top 10?"
"How often throughout the day do I think of this verse?"
"If this verse isn't impressed in my heart and mind, then how can it guide me?"
"How many times do I 'forget' this scripture by not living it?"
"Let all that you do be done in love." May we learn what this means, and may we never forget to live it!
