The Riches of His Grace

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace,”

Ephesians 1:7

Here, redemption is defined as forgiveness of our trespasses (sins), and the mode by which that occurs is the blood of Jesus. This is according to the “riches of His grace” the text says. Our redemption is not just by the grace of God, but by the riches of His grace.

Riches” - Πλοῦτος (Gk) - ploutos - ploo'-tos - From the base of G4130; wealth (as fulness), that is:

  • (literally) money, possessions

  • (figuratively) abundance, richness

  • (specifically) valuable bestowment: - riches. (Strong)

Sometimes, our grace can be lacking, but the grace of God was perfect, full, complete. He gave us the greatest wealth of grace, the life of Jesus Christ. What greater gift could God give? What greater grace could God bestow?

“...you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.”(1Peter 1:18-19) It was not silver and gold. It could not be silver and gold. It was more precious. It was the most precious, the life of His son and our Savior Jesus Christ.

When we think of God’s grace, it is important and valuable for us to consider the riches and the richness of it. Knowing at what cost we receive our redemption, our forgiveness of sins, should help us to appreciate it, and respect it, and value it that much more.

Our redemption is not in ourselves. It is in Jehovah God. Our redemption is not in our blood, but in the blood of Jesus Christ. Our redemption is not in silver and gold, but in that which is far more “rich” than all the silver and gold - the full complete perfect true rich grace of God!

May these truths motivate us in our daily walk with the Lord to love and appreciate the riches of His grace in our daily hope unto eternity! Amen.
